Buying kids phones is a major decision. Here are some things to know first.
Do your kids need a phone?
Deciding when and if to buy your child’s first phone is a highly personal decision.
For many families, phones and teenagers have become inseparable, allowing them to:
- keep in touch with friends and relatives
- share photos, watch videos and listen to music
- play games and shop online
- use pocket money apps and online bank accounts.
On the other hand, there may be potential dangers to consider too. For example, around social media apps, games and phone addiction.
It means there’s no ‘right’ age to buy a children’s mobile phone. It might depend on their maturity, what they’ll use it for, and how you feel about the risks versus the benefits.
